Recalibrating Success

Writer: Susan & RenéeSusan & Renée

To say that the pandemic is making life hard, is an understatement. It is affecting us deeply: physically, emotionally, mentally, and financially.

Many of us are seeing how closely our identities are tied to our work, our productivity, and the measurements used to grade our success. If times are hard and we can’t achieve in the same way, it can be a painful hit to the ego and our self-esteem.

When work accomplishments are where we typically look to tell ourselves we are worthy, valuable, and needed many of us are now feeling disappointed and dissatisfied.

The rules are changing and how we measure success looks vastly different than it did at the beginning of the year. Rather than expanding and profiting, the new goal centers on surviving.

To adapt to this new reality, you’ll need to do some deliberate recalibrations:

  • Adjust the bar against which you measure success. The pandemic has changed the way we view achievement. Letting go of the goals that were set at the beginning of the year and changing expectations to reflect the new reality is essential.

  • Work to develop a flexible mindset. Goals and plans will have to adjust as the business landscape evolves and new information is received.

  • Most importantly, know that your true worth is so much more than what you do in your working life and how well you do it. Remember that the strength, courage and determination you bring to work each day is truly amazing.

Know that we at G2 Solutions appreciate all you are doing. We are rooting for you and wishing you the best as we all move forward.
